Laying the liner for a perfectly waterproof pool

Considered to be the second skin of the pool, the liner is an element independent of the support which ensures the watertightness of the pool.

What is a liner?

The liner or waterproofing membrane is an independent, removable pocket made in the factory from flexible and extensible PVC-P (plasticized polyvinyl chloride) membranes which is positioned on a pool structure to ensure its waterproofing.

There are different thicknesses of liner:
– Liners with a thickness of less than 75/100 are traditionally used for above-ground pool structures.
– The 75/100th thickness liner is the standard used for in-ground or semi-in-ground swimming pools for family use.
– The 150/100th thickness liner (made up of two 75/100th sheets with a polyester weave between them) is generally used for swimming pools with high traffic.

How to choose a liner

Any in-ground or semi-in-ground swimming pool must be equipped with a liner with a thickness of 75/100 or 150/100.
The first element to take into account to make the right choice is the number of people using the pool.
A 150/100th liner will necessarily have greater resistance and therefore durability over time. Similarly, its resistance to chemical and thermal variations will be greater than that of a 75/100th liner.
However, the cost of supplying and installing a 150/100th liner is significantly higher than that of a 75/100th liner.

Installation of a liner

Any liner installation, regardless of its thickness, requires pool preparation with a thorough cleaning of the bottom screed. It is also possible to place a felt on the bottom of the pool to provide additional comfort.

Liner 75/100th

This liner is manufactured to the exact dimensions of the pool. When renovating, it is essential to have the pool measured. Installing a liner is a delicate task, and it is best to hire a professional.

The main installation steps are as follows:

– Positioning the liner in the bottom of the pool,
– The liner attachment profile is then positioned in the profile located on the pool structure under the coping,
– Suction of the air between the wall and the liner is sucked,
– Filling the pool which allows the liner to be placed on the walls and cutting to integrate the parts to be sealed (return nozzle, projectors, attached stairs, etc.).

Liner 150/100th

Unlike the 75/100th thickness liner, the reinforced liner (150/100th) is delivered in rolls to the construction site. The cuts are made directly during installation. The widths are assembled and welded directly in the pool.
Only a professional can install a 150/100th liner.

A liner, regardless of its thickness, will add a real touch of sparkle to your pool. Available in a variety of colors and finishes, the liner is the ideal covering. It guarantees perfect watertightness at a reasonable cost.
