How to choose your in-ground pool?

Posté le

Although the decision to build or build an in-ground pool in your garden is taken after much thought, choosing the type of pool can be complicated.

Comment choisir sa piscine enterrée ?

There are many parameters to consider when choosing the best swimming pool for your home.

Pool size

The size of the future project depends primarily on the land available to accommodate the pool, but also on its price. You no longer need to have a large plot of land to own one.

Today, 1 in 3 in-ground pools are built on land less than 700m². Its size obviously depends on the land but also on the price of the pool.

However, while it is true that a 12m x 6m pool is more expensive than a 6m x 3m pool, a smaller one will not necessarily be cheaper since labor costs are not necessarily linear.

Type of structure

Once you've chosen your pool size, the next question is: Which pool should you choose? Before you start drawing up various quotes, it's important to understand the differences between the different types of pools.

The swimming pool market offers 2 main categories: heavy structures and light structures .

Heavy structures

So-called heavy structures are those made of concrete, a material that remains a guarantee of solidity. There are two main construction methods.

Concrete pools:
Concrete swimming pools include traditional structures (concrete blocks), cast concrete structures (using permanent or non-permanent formwork) and sprayed concrete structures (concrete sprayed onto a reinforced structure).

· Swimming pools with modular panels:
Desjoyaux swimming pools are at the origin of the concept of active permanent formwork following the filing of a patent in 1978. This exclusive concept is composed of 0.25m panels injected with recycled polypropylene. Once assembled together, the panels are reinforced and filled with concrete on site in a single operation to connect the base slab and walls (thus allowing the creation of a monolithic and self-supporting structure).

Lightweight structures

Lightweight structures are those that use little or no concrete.

· Polyester shells:
The structure of this swimming pool is a polyester shell delivered directly to the site and installed on a bed of crushed gravel.

· Steel structures:
The steel panels are assembled together and reinforced by struts sealed to the ground with concrete.
The choice of structure is necessarily linked to the budget that will be allocated to the in-ground pool since a heavy structure that requires more labor will be more expensive than a lightweight structure. The best value for money will remain the modular structure which offers the solidity of concrete, ease of installation (these structures can be installed by the individual) and a wide choice of dimensions and shapes.
Please note that Piscines Desjoyaux offers the "Assisted Kit" option, allowing customers to build their own pool with technical assistance from the dealership. This option benefits from a ten-year warranty.

Filtration type

Just as important as the pool structure, filtration filters the pool water to remove impurities and distribute chemical treatment to keep the water clear and healthy. There are two types of filtration:

FILTRATION WITH PIPELINE
The principle consists of connecting the sand filter and the pump (located in a technical room) to the swimming pool by pipes located under and around the pool. This method of filtration often requires the presence of a technical room or annex building in the garden intended to house the sand filter (which remains very bulky) and the filtration pump.

PIPELESS FILTRATION
A filtration concept invented and patented by Piscines Desjoyaux in 1983, this system is inspired by outboard motors. Economical and clever, the filtration unit is located on the pool structure (rider unit) or integrated into the same structure (filter panel). The filtration unit is composed of a part submerged in the water which contains the filter media (the filter bag or cartridge) and the projector(s) and a part buried in the deck which contains the filtration pump.

Here again, the size and configuration of the land come into play in the choice of filtration.

Peripheral equipment

First of all, it should be taken into account that, since the law of January 1, 2004, all outdoor in-ground swimming pools must be equipped with a safety device designed to prevent access to the pool for children under 5 years old. Four types of equipment corresponding to 4 standards are available on the market:

• Protective barrier (NF P 90306)
• Immersion or perimeter alarm (NF P 90307)
• Flexible or automatic safety cover (NF P 90308)
• Swimming pool shelter (NF P 90309)

Choosing equipment that meets one of the four standards is mandatory. The least expensive device is the immersion alarm. Automatic pool covers or enclosures make it easy to secure the pool and protect it from external pollution. Pool enclosures, thanks to their greenhouse effect, heat the water.

It goes without saying that installing equipment such as roller shutters or pool enclosures is more difficult and expensive for a free-form pool. Therefore, if you dream of installing a roller shutter or enclosure on your pool, it's best to choose a standard pool shape and size.
Not mandatory but just as useful, then come comfort equipment such as cleaning robots or automatic treatments which greatly facilitate the treatment of pool water and its cleaning.

Heat pumps are also considered almost essential equipment since they allow the swimming season to be extended.
Therefore, choosing the right swimming pool also takes into account the additional equipment, since today, future buyers tend to prioritize the comfort of using the swimming pool over its size.

As you can see, to choose the right pool, you need to define your priorities (size, additional safety and comfort equipment), your budget, and be aware of the different options on the market. Expert advice will therefore be essential!
