Installing a Pool Liner: Methods & Steps
Installing a Pool Liner: Methods & Steps
Posté leThe final step in the construction of the in-ground pool, the installation of the liner heralds the filling of the pool and the first swims.

Nonetheless, this step is delicate since it determines the final appearance of the pool. It is therefore preferable to have the liner installed by a qualified professional. Focus on the installation of the pool liner with these different methods and steps.
Before installing the liner
After carefully choosing your pool liner and before installing it on the pool, it is essential to store the liner in a temperate location for at least 24 hours. The outside temperature is also an important parameter for installation (between 15°C and 25°C). The PVC sheet that makes up the liner is sensitive to temperature variations and installation can be more difficult. If the weather conditions are not right, professionals use a site shelter to allow the liner to be installed.
Now it's time to prepare the pool before installing the liner. It is recommended to perfect the installation surface (base and pool structure) before installing the liner to ensure a beautiful finish. This also avoids the need to install felt. If this installation proves essential, it is advisable to choose a rot-proof, anti-fungal, non-waterproof foam that does not contain any components likely to migrate to the liner.
If your Desjoyaux pool is equipped with a filter panel, you will need to seal all the holes located on the front of the panel on the pool side (return nozzle, skimmer and projector) with adhesive. Also position the seals at these holes.
The last preparation step before installation is disinfecting the surface with a suitable product (to be done a few hours before installing the liner).
Laying the liner
It is essential that the pool structure and the bottom of the pool are completely dry before installing the liner. The liner will be placed in the center of the pool and unfolded lengthwise and then widthwise.
Then comes the step of fixing the liner: once the corners of the liner are attached, the liner profile must be slid into the attachment profile of the structure panels. If there is a staircase under the liner, position the liner correctly on the staircase, ensuring that the corners and welds match the edges.
Another technique for attaching the liner to a rail exists, called overlap attachment: this technique consists of folding down and stretching an excess of liner on the other side of the walls, then clipping a rail onto the top of the walls to fix and immobilize the liner. All that remains is to cut off the excess liner that protrudes for a perfect finish. This technique is the most popular among owners of above-ground pools.
Filling the pool and installing the liner
A properly installed liner is one that does not have any creases. To achieve a flawless finish, the air between the liner and the pool walls should be sucked out using suction turbines. The professional will then unhook the liner to install the turbine pipe(s) (one along the length of the pool and the second at the level of the stairs under the liner). Filling the pool will allow the liner to be firmly pressed against the bottom of the pool thanks to the water pressure…. Show more
Installation of sealing flanges and cutting of the liner
It is important to carry out the various necessary clamping operations for the following elements: the return nozzle, the broom socket, the projector, the skimmer of the filter panels and/or the attached staircase. These operations must be carried out as soon as the water reaches 10 cm from the element concerned. It will then be necessary to cut the liner and install the clamps to ensure optimal operation of the pool filtration .
As you will have understood, it is preferable to call on a qualified professional to install your pool liner.
