Filter bag and sand filter
Filter bag and sand filter
Posté leThe filter media or filter, whose role is to retain the impurities present in the pool water, is certainly one of the key elements of the swimming pool.

Proper filtration of a private pool must allow the circulation of the entire volume of pool water through the filter in less than 8 hours (this corresponds to 3 recyclings in 24 hours). The pool's hydraulic system must therefore be designed to allow this circulation while limiting any unnecessary pressure loss. There are a large number of filter models , and the most common on the market remain the filter bag and the sand filter. Here's a look at the two main filter media used in swimming pools.
Filter bag
Operating principle
The filter bag is designed to equip Desjoyaux type filtration units. Inspired by boat outboard motors, Desjoyaux filtration units are integrated into the structure or installed as a straddle on the pool wall. This compact system positioned at the foot of the pool integrates all the elements of a classic filtration system including the bag which is positioned before the filtration pump. The filter bag is available in different filtration finenesses.
The filter bag is certainly the simplest of the filter elements. Easy to install, generally located before the pump in single-unit filtration units, the filter bag is the filter element that offers the best value for money.
Features
Since the performance of a filter is measured by the fineness of filtration, the filter bag remains one of the best types of filtration on the market.
Desjoyaux Swimming Pools sells 30, 15, or 6 micron filter bags. This allows users to adapt the filtration fineness to the season, the pool environment, or its usage. It is recommended to use a 30-micron bag when opening the pool; a 15-micron bag is ideal for balanced water; and a 6-micron bag is more suitable for indoor pools with low pollution.
The price-quality ratio of the filter bag is unbeatable. A filter bag has a lifespan of between 1 and 3 years .
Maintenance and upkeep
No maintenance is required with the filter bag. The only manual action will be to clean the bag during the season. Depending on the pool's use and its environment, cleaning frequency may vary. Washing can be done with a water jet or in a washing machine. Cleaning the filter bag uses very little water.
The long-life JD MASTER FILT or JD MAXI FILTER filters have a longer battery life (6 to 8 times) which allows for less frequent cleaning operations.
Sand filter
Operating principle
The sand filter is a tank filled with sand of two different grain sizes (coarse in the upper part of the tank and fine in the lower part). Driven by the pump, the pool water enters the tank from the top and comes out from the bottom, discharging its impurities, retained by the sand.
The average fineness of sand is generally between 20 and 40 microns.
Features
The sand filter is a bulky system because the tank that contains the sand is large. This requires the construction of a separate room to house the filter. Underground pipes connect the pool and the filter.
The filtration fineness of sand filters is considered medium. It is sometimes necessary to add a flocculant to achieve finer filtration.
Finally, cleaning the sand filter, called Backwash, consumes a potentially significant amount of water.
Maintenance and upkeep
Using the sand filter remains easy with the 6-way valve. It is recommended to change the sand in the tank approximately every 3 or 4 years, but this may depend on the presence or absence of limescale in the water.
